A Lowell, AZ Photo Safari

Erie Street is the last surviving piece of commercial Lowell, Arizona, a former copper-mining town just outside Bisbee. Walking down the street feels strangely like stepping onto a movie set from the mid-twentieth century. Old cars and trucks line the road as if their owners simply never came back for them. Behind the storefront windows are vintage merchandise, mannequins, advertisements, and other remnants of everyday life.

However, this isn’t a “set” designed to look old. What you’re seeing is what actually remains of Lowell, much of it left behind as the open-pit mine gradually swallowed the town.

Today, the Lowell Americana Project, a group of local preservationists, is working to keep this small surviving piece of the community from disappearing altogether.
