The Parada del Sol in Scottsdale, Arizona has been an Arizona tradition since 1953. For whatever reason, neither my husband nor I had attended it until this year.
The beginning of the parade showcased a variety of horses, and our favorites were the dancing ones—especially the one that had a heart on its rear.

Next came bands wielding bagpipes and tubas to wake anyone up who might still be half asleep after just rolling out of bed.

They were followed by a number of groups waving a diverse variety of flags. I tried to get artsy with some of these shots by intentionally moving my camera around.

The remainder of the parade was somewhat dull, and it felt like we were trapped in a lengthy commercial as all the sponsors sent out their representatives to promote themselves in various ways. Throughout the event, elementary and high school groups participated, but every now and then, something interesting appeared, such as the Mexican dancers.

Overall, the parade and festival that followed were fun to attend once. The Arizona Indian Festival was happening simultaneously, and we enjoyed attending that more. However, I’ll leave readers with this image of a parade float filled with cowboy drinkers at a bar:
