Finding Our Tribe

Last night, my husband and I tried something different by attending the Festival of Pies organized by Secular AZ. It was great to be in a room full of like-minded people. We spent over an hour playing a trivia game while filling our bellies with delicious desserts and savory treats.

I discovered this group at a booth during the Tucson Festival of Books in March of this year. I signed up for their email list and have been closely following their newsletters, especially during the election season. Their views aligned with mine, and it was reassuring to know that I wasn’t the only one screaming into the void, for they were shouting alongside me.

We plan on participating in more of their events, starting with the Secular Summit on January 4th.

Please join us January 4, 2025 for the Secular Summit! This annual event draws members and supporters from around Arizona for a day of education, advocacy, inspiration and activism, all centered on the theme of building bridges within the secular community and beyond.

Speakers include Matthew Taylor, author of The Violent Take it by Force: The Christian Movement that is Threatening Our Democracy; Talia Lavin, author of Wild Faith: How the Christian Right is Taking Over America, and more.

This year’s event will be hybrid – both in-person and over Zoom.

If you’re interested in joining, here is their zoom link or ticket sale ($30).

2025 will start the new abnormal, but I’m hoping this group will help me maintain my sanity.

My books Memory Road Trip (e-book or paperback) and Time Traveled (e-book or paperback) are both available! You can also find them at most major international book sites.
